Ken Gitonga, former Head of Commercial for BAT East & Southern Africa, has been appointed as the General Manager for BAT Southern African Markets, effective February 1, 2024.

Gitonga, a seasoned professional, rejoined BAT Kenya in April 2017 as National Sales Manager. In 2018, he took on international assignments at the BAT Group office in London, UK, holding roles such as Trade Marketing Manager for the Americas and Sub-Sahara Africa and International Brand Manager for the Modern Oral Nicotine portfolio.

Having moved to South Africa in April 2021 as Head of Activations for the East & Southern Africa Area, Gitonga was subsequently appointed as the Head of Trade for East African Markets in February 2022.

Despite his new role, the Southern African region continues to fall under the control of the Nairobi office, which was expanded to include five Southern African markets – Malawi, Mozambique, Angola, Zimbabwe, and Zambia – as part of BAT’s global business transformation.

Ken Gitonga is recognized for transforming the Company’s route-to-consumer capabilities and maximizing revenue potential through robust people leadership during his tenure as the head of commercial for BAT East & Southern Africa, based in Nairobi.
