Mombasa County Governor Abdulswamad Sheriff Nassir has presented the spiritual leader of the Dawoodi Bohra community, Dr. Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin, with the key to the city of Mombasa as a symbol of perpetual welcome.

The honor was bestowed during a private ceremony at Syedna Saifuddin’s residence in Mombasa.

The event was attended by Governor Nassir, his staff, county administration officials, and a delegation from the Dawoodi Bohra community.

Speaking about the significance of the occasion, Governor Nassir noted that Dr. Saifuddin was the first recipient of the city key under his leadership.

The Governor commended him for his contributions, particularly highlighting the rainwater harvesting project launched during his previous visit, which has already begun to bear fruit.

“We are very pleased and deeply grateful to the Governor for recognizing Syedna’s dedication to social causes and presenting him with this honor. It is evidence of the long-standing friendship and solidarity between our community leadership and the county administration,” said Dawoodi Bohra community representative Mr. Hamza Shuri.

Over 10,000 members of the Dawoodi Bohra community have gathered in Mombasa to attend sermons and receive blessings from their spiritual leader.

Dr. Saifuddin has collaborated with community members to provide guidance and advice on various issues.

The rainwater harvesting project, launched in 2023 in collaboration with the Mombasa County Government, has been highly successful.

The project has inspired similar initiatives worldwide, aiming to address water scarcity and promote sustainable water management.
