Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria held discussions with officials from the influential Mt Kenya Foundation Secretariat and Football Kenya Federation (FKF) chairpersons from the 11 Mt Kenya counties on Saturday in preparation for his upcoming football tournament.

Kuria emphasized that the tournament, scheduled to begin on February 4, will serve as a platform to mentor and counsel the youth in the region, promoting talent through local teams and addressing issues such as drug abuse.

The tournament will feature 64 combined constituency teams and eight regional groups. The winner is set to receive Sh5 million, the runners-up Sh3 million, and the third-place holder Sh1 million, according to a statement released by Kuria in January.

Despite excluding nine constituencies in Meru County following allegations that the tournaments were a distraction from addressing the death of blogger Daniel Muthiani (Sniper), Kuria joins other Cabinet Secretaries and government officials who have organized football tournaments across the country since December 2023.

Among them are Health CS Susan Nakhumicha, ICT CS Eliud Owalo, Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen, and Sports and Youth Affairs CS Ababu Namwamba. UDA Secretary General Cleophas Malala also hosted the Cleo Malala Supercup on December 31, 2023, offering significant cash prizes to the winners.
