63 residents of Soweto in Embakasi East have been left homeless following a devastating night fire that engulfed their homes.

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino took to X to share the distressing news, highlighting the destruction of the residents’ homes and belongings.

“In another sad day in Soweto ward, Embakasi East, 63 residents are left homeless after a fire burned down their houses and other valuables last night. Please pray for Embakasi East,” expressed the MP on X.

While Babu Owino shared photos of the incident, the cause of the fire remains undetermined.

This incident follows closely after a recent night fire in the Mradi area of Embakasi, which tragically claimed the lives of at least six individuals. The fire was reportedly sparked by a gas tanker explosion originating from a gas refilling plant operating in the vicinity.

In response to these incidents, Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has ordered the closure of gas businesses operating within residential areas, emphasizing the need for heightened safety measures.

Furthermore, President William Ruto issued a directive over the weekend to dismiss state employees allegedly involved in granting licenses for the operation of the gas plant responsible for the explosion. He attributed the occurrence to the dishonesty, corruption, and greed of government representatives involved in the licensing process.
