Detectives are currently probing a heartbreaking incident in which a grade eight pupil reportedly died after falling from the rooftop of a school located in the Umoja area of Nairobi.

The unfortunate event unfolded as police disclosed that the boy’s body was found on the first floor of the building following the incident. To shed light on the circumstances surrounding the tragedy, surveillance footage from the school premises has been acquired by the authorities for review.

Taking place on Friday, March 8, the incident occurred in a school housed within a seven-story building, raising questions about the safety protocols in place at the institution.

Initially treated as a case of accidental fall, police have now categorized their investigation as a murder inquiry, given the observation that the boy’s injuries did not align with typical fall injuries. A postmortem examination is expected to provide further insights into the nature of the incident.

In connection with the tragedy, four individuals, including two directors, the head teacher, and a teacher overseeing the boarding section, were apprehended for interrogation on Friday night. Buruburu sub-county police commander Francis Kamau affirmed the ongoing investigations, noting various inconsistencies that have surfaced.

Amidst the police probe, an internal investigation is concurrently being conducted within the school premises. Of particular interest is an alleged interrogation of the deceased pupil by a teacher earlier on the day of the incident, raising concerns about the school’s handling of disciplinary matters.

The events leading up to the boy’s fall, occurring at approximately 7:30 pm, remain shrouded in ambiguity, prompting intensified scrutiny into the circumstances surrounding the tragic occurrence.

Given that the school operates as a boarding institution with a significant number of students, the incident has sparked anxiety among parents, with demands for justice echoing within the community. In response, some parents have visited the school to ensure the safety and well-being of their children, underscoring the gravity of the situation.
