According to the Kenya Meteorological Department’s weekly forecast, most parts of the country will experience dry weather from February 6 to February 12. However, certain regions will receive light to moderate rainfall during this period.

Areas expected to see rainfall include parts of the South Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley. Additionally, some regions in the South-eastern lowlands, the Coast, and Northeastern Kenya may also experience light to moderate rainfall.

The forecast indicates that areas such as the Coast, North-eastern, and North-western Kenya will face high average daytime temperatures exceeding 30 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, counties in the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi, will see occasional cloudiness in the mornings followed by sunny intervals. Light to moderate afternoon and night showers are also anticipated in some areas.

In specific counties like Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka-Nithi, temperatures during the day are expected to reach up to 29 degrees Celsius in Nairobi, 31 degrees Celsius in Thika, and 29 degrees Celsius in Embu. Night temperatures may drop significantly, reaching as low as eight to six degrees Celsius in Laikipia and Nyahururu respectively.

Counties in the southeastern lowlands, including Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado, and Taita-Taveta, are forecasted to have sunny days and partly cloudy nights, with occasional light morning rains and afternoon showers. Similarly, the Coast counties of Mombasa, Tana-River, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale will experience sunny days with some afternoon showers in certain areas.

North-eastern Kenya, comprising Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo counties, will face extremely high temperatures, with Garissa and Mandera expected to reach 38 degrees Celsius. Despite the high temperatures, these regions will have sunny days and partly cloudy nights, with occasional light morning rains and afternoon showers.

North-western Kenya, including Turkana and Samburu counties, will also experience sunny days and partly cloudy nights, with light morning rains expected in some areas bordering South Sudan and Uganda.

In the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley counties, sunny mornings are anticipated with light rains over a few places. Moderate afternoon and night showers and thunderstorms may occur in some areas within these counties.
