The death toll from the gas fire incident in Embakasi on Friday has risen to six, with three additional survivors succumbing to their injuries on Sunday. Isaac Mwaura, the Government Spokesperson, provided the update, stating that several patients are still undergoing treatment at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) and Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral, and Research Hospital (KUTRRH).

KUTRRH has attended to 27 patients, with eight discharged and 19 still under care, including three minors. KNH has treated 67 patients, with 27 discharged, 34 in the wards, and six in critical condition with severe burns. The hospitals are equipped for dialysis services, anticipating potential kidney conditions.

The patients are undergoing various treatments, and the next phase involving skin grafts is set to begin. President William Ruto ordered the sacking of state officials responsible for irregularly issuing licenses for the gas plant operation, attributing the incident to corruption and lack of integrity. Four NEMA officials were instructed to step aside amid investigations into the license issuance.
