Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has taken decisive action by ordering the immediate closure of all drinking joints in the county. This decision comes amidst concerns regarding the fraudulent issuance of licenses to bar owners, prompting Waiguru to suspend the operations of these establishments.

Addressing the issue during a funeral ceremony in Mwea, Governor Waiguru expressed her deep concern over the illicit sale of alcohol and the tragic consequences it has had on the community. She emphasized the need for a comprehensive process to verify and vary the operational permits of bars in the county.

“We have reached our breaking point. I urge you to support and protect me as we take this necessary step. Today, I announce the closure of all bars in the county, and we have initiated a new process to verify the licenses. The county government has revoked all licenses with immediate effect,” Governor Waiguru declared.
