Triple African race walk champion Samuel Gathimba is determined to make history at the Paris 2024 Olympics. Having secured his spot at the global event during last year’s World Championships in Hungary, where he achieved a personal best of 1:18:34, Gathimba is confident in his ability to lead Kenya to unprecedented success in race walking.

In an interview, Gathimba expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “I’m working concertedly with my coach, and I can confidently state that things are looking up for me. I have invested enough effort in training, and I’m convinced I can make it to the podium and grab the gold for the country.”

Despite anticipating intense competition, Gathimba remains unfazed, emphasizing that he is in the best shape ever to claim the title. He feels exhilarated after securing his ticket to Paris 2024, expressing satisfaction with the progress he has made in training.

To further prepare for the Olympics, Gathimba plans to participate in the All Africa Games in Accra, Ghana, where he aims to add another gold medal to his impressive trophy cabinet. Reflecting on his past successes, including winning the 2019 All Africa Games title in Rabat, Morocco, he is determined to achieve top honors in Accra.

Gathimba, a multiple national champion, recently clinched the national title at the third Athletics Kenya meet at Nyayo Stadium. He credits his success to a special training regimen, continuous drills, and the support of his training partner David Kingori and Emily Ngii.
