ICT Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo has been selected as one of the 18 members to serve on the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Global Digital Innovation Board. This board is a crucial component of the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Alliance for Digital Development under the ITU, aimed at accelerating efforts to bridge the digital innovation gap.

The primary objective of the board is to provide support to ITU members in their journey towards achieving an equitable digital future for all. Owalo expressed his pride in the appointment, highlighting it as an achievement for Kenya in its pursuit of digital transformation, recognizing ICTs as pivotal in driving economic growth.

Owalo emphasized the government’s commitment to leveraging ICTs to address societal challenges such as unemployment, poverty, and delivery constraints in public services. Kenya’s focus on ICT priorities is evident in various documents, including the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda, indicating the crucial role of technology in driving national development.
