In the occupied territories of Ukraine, Russian forces are intensifying their efforts to spread propaganda by distributing free satellite equipment. This initiative, aimed at expanding the Kremlin’s influence, is part of a broader strategy to control the narrative in these regions.
According to a report by the Center for National Resistance, Russians are continuing a program that provides satellite equipment to residents in the temporarily occupied areas of Ukraine. The equipment allows access to a range of Russian propaganda channels, designed to ensure that the Kremlin’s messaging dominates the information landscape in these territories.
The program, known as the “Russian Measure,” was initially launched in 2022 and has now been extended. Its primary objective is to create a comprehensive network of propaganda, reaching as many residents as possible. However, the initiative has encountered significant resistance from the local population. Despite the equipment being offered for free, many residents have shown little interest in accepting it.
The reluctance to accept the satellite kits has led Russian forces to impose additional conditions on their distribution. In some cases, residents are required to obtain Russian documents before they can receive the equipment. This tactic appears to be an attempt to force compliance and increase the penetration of Russian media in the occupied regions.
The Center for National Resistance highlighted that the reluctance of residents to take the satellite kits is indicative of a broader resistance to Russian occupation. Despite the persistent efforts of the occupiers, many Ukrainians in these territories remain skeptical of the propaganda being pushed by the Kremlin.
The situation in the Kherson region is particularly concerning. Russian forces have established a “Council for Investment and Industrial Development,” which is ostensibly aimed at fostering economic growth. However, the true purpose of this council is believed to be the systematic looting of seized enterprises in the region, disguised as legitimate investment. This move further consolidates Russian control over the region’s resources while undermining local businesses and economies.
