Gaza Camps Flooded by Heavy Rains as Israeli Strikes Kill 10, Including Children

At least ten Palestinians, including four children, were killed in Israeli airstrikes in the central Gaza Strip on Monday, as heavy rains battered the region, flooding makeshift tent camps where thousands of displaced residents live. The strikes are the latest in the nearly year-long assault on Gaza, which has continued even as international focus shifts to the escalating conflict between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon.

Medics reported that one of the airstrikes targeted a school in Nuseirat refugee camp, which was sheltering displaced Palestinians, killing five people. The Israeli military said the strike targeted a Hamas command center embedded inside a compound that had previously served as a school. Later on Monday, an Israeli airstrike on a house in Deir Al-Balah, where many displaced families had taken shelter, killed a woman and four children. The military has not yet commented on the incident.

The situation for Gaza’s displaced worsened overnight as heavy rains flooded tent encampments, forcing families out of their makeshift shelters. Residents described using buckets to keep water from soaking their belongings and digging trenches to divert the floodwaters. Prices for basic materials like tents and plastic sheeting have soared, making it increasingly difficult for families to protect themselves from the elements.
